Fastfood Sports Nutrition Products
Fastfood was created by Chew’s founder and CEO, award-winning chef, and multi-podium Ironman triathlete, Adam Melonas. Melonas identified a problematic void in the performance nutrition marketplace – one that forces elite and amateur athletes to sacrifice their food values due to the inclusion of artificial ingredients. Fastfood fills that void, as its products are made of natural, real food, and provide consumers with the highest-performance quality on the market.
Fastfood’s line of Galacto-GelsTM, Galacto-GummiesTM, and Hydrator beverage mixes is made from real food and is certified with Informed Sport, providing athletes assurance that all products have been tested for a wide range of substances prohibited in sport.
Fastfood was developed by world-renowned chefs, scientists, and endurance athletes. While other noted brands also feature Glucose and Fructose in their line of sports fuels, the success of Fastfood is being powered by Galactose a key carbohydrate in its Galacto-Gels and Galacto-Gummy offerings. By combining Galactose with Fructose and Glucose, it creates maximum diversification of energy inputs into varied metabolic pathways, creating and efficiency of energy absorption. This helps avoid over-depletion of glycogen and sugar crashes, frequently seen in all athletic activity that lasts more than 1-hour.
All Fastfood products, which come in a wide variety of flavors, contain 25g of carbohydrates per serving and range in price per serving from $1.92 – $3.33. Items are also sold in multi-serve packs ranging from $30 – $46.
Pre-orders for Fastfood will be made available beginning on February 14 by visiting lovefastfood.com, with shipping to commence on Monday March 6.
PEZ sez: When you hear the words “fast food,” McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, KFC, Taco Bell, and other fast food franchises immediately come to mind. Fastfood sports nutrition is definitely not that. They sent PEZ a wide ranging assortment of:
- Hydrator – Orange, Lemon+Lime, Raspberry+Pomegranate
- Galacto-Gel – Original, Strawberry+Cherry, Mango+Passionfruit, Yuzu+Guarana
- Galacto-Gummy – Citrus+Guarana, Mango+Passionfruit, Strawberry+Cherry
The first thing I noticed was that aside from Hydrator in Orange and Lemon+Lime, Fastfood’s products use different flavors from most other sports nutrition products. If your taste buds are overloaded from the usual chocolate, peanut butter, and typical berries, Fastfood will be a change of pace.
I haven’t tried all the flavors yet, but I have tried each of the three products and found them to my liking. Of course, what everyone likes in terms of taste and texture is different so YMMV.
Hydrator is a sports drink powder that you mix with water. If “off the shelf” sports drinks that you buy in grocery stores are too sweet for your taste buds, you’ll appreciate that the Hydrator flavors are more “muted” when it comes to sweetness.
Galacto-Gel is a lot like other sports gels in terms of consistency. I liked the oversized packet. I found it easier to put in and take out of a jersey pocket and easier to squeeze out without having it spill everywhere while riding. I also found it easier to fold up and stow in a jersey pocket after without goop getting all over the inside of the pocket until I could find a suitable trash container for disposal.
Like their gel, Fastfood’s Galacto-Gummy was a lot like most other gummies on the market in terms of consistency. I found them a good size to pop into my mouth and easy to chew. I’m a big fan of gummies while riding because I can easily eat as many (or few) as I want/need. No need to chew off a piece of an energy bar or gulp down an entire gel.
If you’re open to new flavors and want to try something different for on-bike hydration and fueling, IMHO Fastfood is worth trying. But it’s not just me … the Human Powered Health cycling team is fueling on Fastfood.
